This piece by Evo is such a stunning image! The regal pose of this beautiful older lady, with her floral headdress and decorative costume, has Freida Kahlo vibes. The gorgeous blue sky, and the enormous succulents, give the piece an exotic air. The viewer is drawn into the image through the vibrant colours and gorgeous subject. It is a celebration of the ordinary and the extraordinary at the same time. This piece is part of a collection and the other pieces are well worth checking out as well.
This piece is such a whimsical image, it is surreal and yet aesthetically it has quite a traditional feel to it. The dark background and the dark coat of the figure juxtapose wonderfully against the patterned vest of the woman. The red lips, gold belt buckle and pearl earrings give a hint of opulence. The flowers obscuring the face creates a delightful tension between the viewer and the artist's narrative. It is a subtle and pleasing image which is reminiscent of the work of Luis Gonzalez Palma.
This character, by Moey, appears in many of the artist's pieces and he is so fabulous. The deadpan expression, and the casual pose, gives him an old fashioned feel. Is he the artist? or someone famous? He is definitely a refreshing muse after the millions of beautiful young women that appear in so many artworks. The same face is repeated in the framed picture behind. The wonderful plethora of patterns and decorative elements give the piece still life qualities. This is a beautifully quirky and interesting piece and one that is both nostalgic and playful.
The sad expression on the mushroom figure, in this piece, tugs at the heartstrings. They appear to be part organic, part earthen, with elements of the celestial in the jet black orb surrounding their head. There appear to be small birds or leaves floating through the air and the other fungi seem to bend and bow around the figure. The grey and black tones in this piece give it a sombre note and it is reminiscent of the illustrations of Candice Tripp in the dark, magical mood that is both enticing and ominous.
This image has got to be the most perfect use of orange ever seen! The hair is aflame with orange, red and crimson and it is absolutely mesmerizing. The gorgeous figure resting on the beautifully soft cloud seems to be a goddess of some sort. The galaxy in her hair and the world at her feet. She is radiant with stars and suspended in thin air. An intriguing image with so much to absorb. Garis has created an artwork which speaks of archetypes and mythology, it is reminiscent of the photography of Brooke Shaden, with its beautiful mixture of symbolic and surrealist elements.
This piece, by Limbo, has a graphic novel quality to it, because of the fantastic assortment of strange characters and unusual elements. The main focus, for the viewer, wavers between the coral headed figure and the sinister eye creature. When looking closer, the viewer discovers a fetus in a strange glass contraption and a weird creature lurking in the grass. The story this piece tells is mythical and epic. This piece has the title Emperor of loneliness in a foreign land and I'm sure we would all line up to read the story behind that title.
Like an understated version of a Gustav Klimt piece, this image is so gorgeous in its use of colour and subject matter. The sleeping sisters, or lovers, seem so very peaceful as they clutch flowers to their bare breasts. It has Ophelia undertones with their smooth, pale skin in contrast with their vibrant orange hair. The green and magenta that surround them emphasising the beauty of the orange in the hair and bedding. This piece is jewel like and perfect with a lovely classical feel to it. Neg has captured such an ordinary moment and made it both beautiful and captivating.
This piece has a lovely folk art feel to it with the ginger haired fox girl and the other foxy figures. Like a sense from a fairytale the viewer is captivated by the five pairs of blue eyes looking out of the piece. The intricate details of the girl's dress and collar give a folky flavor as well. She seems sad and stern as she clutches the baby fox in her arms. The viewer imagines her to be a protector and champion of the skulk of foxes. Perhaps she was abandoned in the forest and raised amongst them. This is a lovely and whimsical image.
Put the kettle on and make yourself comfortable! This image is so cosy and so welcoming. The viewer feels so at home with this selection of familiar objects. The teapot and the house plants speak of a comfortable work space and happy moments near a large window. It seems to be early morning or evening from the low lying shadows. It is the epitome of the relaxing moment of quite at each end of the day, enjoyed with a cuppa and the relief of a quiet moment to oneself. A gorgeous piece Varya!
