Issue 10
This quirky piece, by Arya, has a fantastical quality to it like a more classical version of the Surrealist Salvador Dali. The details are delicate and beautiful, the brains in a covered dish and the little yellow butterfly, for example, have a natural history element to them, which is both whimsical and interesting. This is a very seamless work and the muted tones and creative imagery make it a wonderful artwork to view.
Oveck's piece is such a beautiful work, with such a lovely colour palette. The central figure appears to be melting or succumbing to the power emanating from the omnipotent hand from above. The two figures behind have an alien type feel to them, with their strange eyes and ominous visage. The title Balance alludes to the composition of the piece and perhaps speaks of the artist motivation for the work as well.
This piece is delightfully dark and beautiful. The window, looking out onto tropical jungle, frames the composition in a lovely way. The plants in the foreground seem to be both inside and outside the window at the same time, which gives an element of surrealism to the piece. The piece has a lovely orange/brown haze across the bottom right corner lending it the feel of a vintage painting or photograph. The artist draws the viewer into this exotic and evocative piece.
This piece, by Vireter, is reminiscent of Kimono fabric with its delicate aquatic details and its beautiful use of colour. The fish and the seaweed seems to float and move before the viewers eyes with the cunning use of fine lines and interwoven layers. The central feature plant adds a vibrant splash of colour, to the otherwise pastel image, in a very successful way. This artwork is both calming and beautifully detailed.
This piece of Zoe's is a detail from an unminted collection, and it is exquisite. The raw emotion she expresses in her work is very compelling as the viewer experiences her turmoil, her anguish and deepest emotions. Born out of the loss of her baby boy, Zoe gives herself an outlet for her grief and the power of her work shakes us, the viewer, to our core. Her paintings breathes life and vitality in a way that celebrates both life, and death, with a bone rattling honesty and with absolutely no sense of fear. Her work is inspiring in every way.
The textures in this piece are so organic and tactile. The piece is reminiscent of an etching plate with its textural surface and the fine lines and crosshatched details. There is a lovely sense of light as it highlights the mountain in the background and the seed heads or flowers in the foreground. KRCaptures has a very simple and elegant style that gives a meditative feel to the work.
Alba's piece was a winning entry into the @avril15 s3 fan art competition and it is a lovely artwork. The bright colours in the foreground stand out beautifully against the wonderful blues and blacks of the background and the figure. Alba has a lovely stylized way of drawing figures that is both naïve and charming. The way the central eye lets off a glow like it is lit from within is very nicely done.
Varvara has such a recognisable style and this piece is a perfect example of the vibrant, quirky images she creates. The figures she produces have a medieval stiffness to them, as if they are marionettes on strings. Her use of natural elements and strong symbolic imagery gives her work a romantic feel. Her art is a perfect way to breathing a feminine air into an often male dominated art space.
This artwork, by Mellyverdes, has a powerful graphic quality to it, that draws the viewer in immediately. The vivid blue tears and the pink cheeks give the character a melancholy feel, although her gaze appears more sensual than sad. The use of black in the image makes the others colours stand out vibrantly. This is a gorgeous and moving piece of art.
