Issue 5
This piece is so elegant with its minimal colour palette and it's graceful lines. The figure is satisfyingly curvaceous while the cat melts into the black background leaving seemingly negative space where it sits on the figures shoulders. Sasha has managed to create a tactile reaction to her work as the viewer responds to the soft void cat held by those spectacular hands. The woman's skin seems smooth and alive against the dense blackness she inhabits. The drama this artwork creates, with such simplicity, is masterful. The name Karabasan (nightmare in Turkish) sums up the unnerving beauty in this image.
The abstract nature of this artwork is the first thing the viewer notices. The elongated figures have a shadow like quality. The heads aligning along the horizon creates an exciting composition. The yellow and orange sits beautifully alongside the dark figures and remind the viewer of flames or sunbaked desert sand. The piece has a feeling of worship, as if the devotees wait, at dusk, to participate in a sacred ritual. The occasional white robed figure evocative of holy men or shaman. As a viewer we feel somehow included in this congregation which is a powerful reaction to such an abstract image. Thomas' piece is both compelling and thoughtfully composed.
This piece is called Catalyst and it has a fantastic chaotic element to the composition. The central swirl, like that of a galaxy, creates movement and draws the viewers eye from the middle of the piece out to its edges. There is a collage feel to the artwork which evokes the sense of maps, charts and vinyl record covers. The colour palette is vivid and exciting and the work has a subtle textural element to it. The strong geometric design holds the viewers attention and gives the piece structure. It appears almost three dimensional as the vibrant colours, and abstract forms, burst forth from the image.
The Minotaur is such a classical subject for an artwork and in this instance Evolve-R has added such beauty and detail to the mythology of the character. The piece has a lithographic quality with it's intricate design and inky colour palette. The Minotaur holds flowers as if he awaits a loved one, perhaps Ariadne, the raven and the skull allude to death. He appears to be sitting on a throne shaped chair and his body is adorned with symbolic tattoos. Such a poignant piece with so much to explore in its details.
Pretty Punks is such a striking image with the figure staring defiantly out at the viewer as if daring us to comment on their unconventional appearance. The albino like features, and the vibrant tattoos, create such a edgy feel to the work. The skull tattoo appears three dimensional on the young mans arm as does the rose protruding from his eye socket. The whimsical and the nightmarish aspects of this piece vie for dominance. The beauty in contrast to the unnerving quality this piece projects. The black background provides a dramatic element to the work and the viewer is left both intrigued and beguiled at the same time.

Artwork: Poison Berries
Nymea's piece Poison Berries has such a romantic feel to it with the reclining figure and the soft pastel style drawing. The young woman seems to be enveloped by vegetation, and flowers, as if she is being drawn back into the cosmos. The beautiful blues, pinks and oranges gives a naïve feel to the image as if she is a princess from a fairytale. The stars in the background create a feeling of timelessness, is she a mythological being? Perhaps she is a fay being awaiting rescue or a maiden who has been imprisoned by an evil witch. The piece is both nostalgic and evocative.

Artwork: Aridane
RedruM has created an epic piece depicting a male and female figure battling what appears to be one strangely formed beast. The male figure rides upon the creatures back, it's limbs branching out into strange rhinoceros shapes, fleshy branches and serpentine elements. The female figure is headless and her body morphs into sinuous red ribbons, presumably the red ball of yarn from the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. The misshapen limbs in this work give it a nightmarish quality and the sumptuous red is reminiscent of the Renaissance painters. The vibrant ribbon and the deformed flesh curl in a graceful dance between the heroes and the demon.
This piece by Sadboi is a beautifully composed allegory reminiscent of the Ancient Greek frescos. The ominous demon that looms above the three female figures is both austere and forbidding, presumably the representation of Thantos, the personification of death. The three young women, who represent the Moirai, or Fates, seem to dance attendance on the whims of death, a red thread and scissors the only artifact they possess, besides their nude bodies and flowing hair. The limited colour palette and the clean lines of the piece make this image both enchanting and sophisticated.
Nina's artwork exudes a peaceful quality, as if the viewer is glimpsing a dream. The pale, melancholy, young woman looks off to the left, her little nose pink as if she is feeling the cold. Her pose is slightly self-conscious and her arm is lifted to protect her breasts from the viewers gaze. The figure seems to be evaporating, or disintegrating, into infinitesimal particles. The artworks name is Entropy which is a word scientists use to describe the level of chaos in matter. Perhaps this gives some clue to the image, as if the figure has begun to unravel into a chaotic state. Such a beautiful, poetic, unraveling.
