A new format for NFT Weekly
NFT Weekly began as a way of discovering and sharing the work of artists working in the NFT space. Each issue brought together a group of artists, usually around nine, and gave readers a chance to discover a range of different styles and approaches in one place.
As the archive has grown, I have started to look at those early articles differently. They are not just old articles. They are a record of the artists who were working in this space at a particular point in time, and of what the NFT art world looked like as it was developing.
Because of this, NFT Weekly is changing its format.
Rather than featuring nine artists in each weekly post, each week will now focus on one artist.
The artists being featured are not necessarily new artists. Many will be artists who have appeared in NFT Weekly before. Their work is being revisited and given its own space, rather than being lost amongst the other artists in an older article.
The original articles are being preserved as part of the NFT Weekly archive. This means that an artist who was originally featured in an article with eight other artists may now have a post of their own. The information comes from the original NFT Weekly feature, but it is being separated so that the artist can be found and explored on their own.
There is a reason for doing this.
The NFT landscape has changed considerably since NFT Weekly first began. Artists have moved into different areas, new technologies have emerged and some of the ideas that seemed important at the time have changed. Looking back at the artists I featured then is a way of seeing some of that change.
The new format gives each artist a little more room.
It also means that NFT Weekly can become more than a weekly selection of artists. Alongside the artist features, I will be looking back at the history of NFTs, digital art and Web3, including the people, projects, technologies and ideas that shaped the space.
Some of the artists will be familiar names. Others may be artists who have received much less attention but were part of the story at the time.
The aim is not to rewrite the past, but to preserve it and make it easier to explore.
So, while the format of NFT Weekly is changing, the artists are not being replaced. They are being brought back into focus.
